the pentagon to the inbound 14th street bridge. inbound suitland parkway and coming across the douglas bridge. that's a check of your fox 5 on time traffic. >> julie, thanks. red light cameras in maryland causing quite the stir among drivers in rockville. >> the amount of tickets in the last year has nearly doubled and the reason why may surprise you. melanie alnwick is live with more. >> reporter: good morning, tony and allison. yeah, you know, this is definitely causing a lot of consternation among drivers especially those who received tickets and didn't realize they were being cited for blowing through a red light when they believed they stopped at those intersections. so here's what's going on. the city of rockville changed camera vendors. changed the cameras and what they consider to be a red light violation. let's show you video we shot. here's what it looks like. the cameras will flash if the driver crosses the white stop line. also videotaped drivers making right turns on red but they'll get a ticket if they don't come to a complete stop before making the turn. westbound at research.

: the pentagon facing sweeping budget cuts which lefers secretary leon panetta would be a threat to our security. >> i don't want to see taxes increased but i would like to see the president call the leaders over to the white house and say, look, we have got to solve this problem. outgoing secretary of defense, leon panetta, is one of the most widely respected persons in washington, d.c. he's saying this will devastate tour security. republicans and democrats are responsible for this new cliff. and i'll take responsibility for the republicans but we have got to stop it, we have to avoid it. bill: you are going to hold a hearing tomorrow on these cuts. what is your best solution? >> i believe the cuts are going to happen. the president is insistent on tax increases or cuts and i think he gets spending cuts, about half of them are in the military. the best solution is let the defense department target those cuts rather than take across the board cuts. i think they will happen. i'm not going to be for tax increases and i suspect there will be no taxes. bill: just to be clear, the sequestration will

news. new nuclear test overnight from a defiant north korea. nbc is live at the pentagon. mick, what's the latest? >> reporter: good morning, savannah. we've been here before. this one has set off some serious alarm bells. first of all, early readings indicate that this nuclear device exploded by the north koreans may have been anywhere from three to six times more power than than previous tests. at the same time the north koreans claim they were able to achieve that with a much smaller device. that would indicate that they could be making progress in miniaturizing a nuclear weapon and it could be put on a missile and theoretically launched at the you states. no one is confirming that, but it got everyone's attention. this blast got the immediate and sharp response from the white house. president obama says it threatens. u.s. national security. he says the united states will continue to take steps necessary to defend ourselves and our allies. and as matt mentioned a moment ago, the security council at the u.n. meeting at this moment to discuss tightening and increasing sanctions agai
